Digital Mountain is a dynamic, Silicon Valley-based company in the high growth area of electronic discovery, digital forensics and cybersecurity services. We are seeking a talented, small business Controller to be part of our energetic team. The company is privately held and has customers among the largest law firms and corporations in the United States. The candidate will need to develop and execute our accounting policies and process so that we can meet our financial growth goals. This individual will be working closely with our CEO and VP of Operations who both have CPA licenses to ensure that our books are kept up to date and accurate for quick decision making and reporting. The Controller must be extremely detail oriented yet efficient, and have a deep understanding of GAAP. This leader will need input from a variety of employees and must be an effective collaborator. This role will be ever changing and will require the candidate to be flexible and open-minded. The position needs to report into the office in Santa Clara and is not a remote position.
Minimum Position Requirements
- Developing, managing, and enforcing GAAP-compliant procedures
- Performing and managing the monthly and quarterly close processes with our Accounting Manager
- Managing and sometimes doing billings, accounts receivable collections, and accounts payables processing
- Managing the payroll process
- Anticipating and evaluating business needs to make sure that financial organization and systems appropriately support the company’s growth
- 5 – 10 years of related experience
- Bachelor’s degree required; concentration in accounting or finance preferred
- Big 4 experience and CPA or CPA candidate preferred
- Strong knowledge of corporate finance and other accounting theory, principles and practices to include GAAP, prepaid expenses & accrued revenue, ASC 605: Revenue Recognition, etc.
- Strong knowledge of and experience with tax processes including: Annual Federal Form 1120, Annual State CA Form 100, Depreciation and amortization schedules, Local Business Registrations & Compliance, W9/1099, Form 5500, etc.
- Evaluating 401 (K) investments
- Managing setup in new states that are needed
- Mastery knowledge of Microsoft Office; accounting software including QuickBooks, and other accounting-relating applications
- Comfortable in a smaller environment and improving processes and able to create enhanced structure
- Strong priority management skills
